Yes - that would be a nice feature for Shotwell.  I've created a ticket 
for this at http://trac.yorba.org/ticket/1810 .

Aha - I see.  I think we can probably live without that feature for the 
moment, but feel free to create a ticket for this if you like.

We think that enhancing Shotwell's slideshows would be a great summer 
project.  We just looked at the Fedora Summer Coding web page 
(https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Summer_Coding_2010).  It looks like the 
next step is for us to create an idea page for Shotwell on the Fedora 
Summer Coding wiki.  Then you can submit a project proposal and if it is 
accepted (you'll find out in late May) it looks like you would begin 
work in June.  We have a couple of questions about the process and so I 
just sent an email to the Summer Coding mailing list, but with any luck 
we can get the ball rolling soon.

We're not yet sure whether transitions should be implemented using 
Clutter, Cairo, OpenGL or something else - maybe we can all think about 
that and discuss in the near future.
