Shotwell does not call UFRaw or require it to be installed. Shotwell
converts photos from RAW using the libraw library (see
http://www.libraw.org/), which is a wrapper around the same dcraw engine
used by UFRaw.

Shotwell's RAW support is limited in the upcoming 0.6 release. Today,
Shotwell can convert each RAW file to a JPEG for display, and can also
open RAW photos in an external editor. At some point we'd like to build
RAW adjustment capabilities directly into Shotwell; then you'll be able
to choose the kinds of settings you mention in Shotwell without having
to launch an external program. At that point I also hope we'll make it
possible to apply a single setting to a group of photos. This sort of
RAW editing is probably a few releases away, however.
