These two would go well together, btw, with D-BUS/REST exchange in that
data-format.

In fact, I wonder why you haven't done this already ;-) Of course, I
recognize that both of these things can be pretty hard to specify when
you're not exactly sure yet what Shotwell will develop towards. However,
both D-BUS and REST are pretty extensible in a backwards-compatible way,
so I'd suggest just jumping in there.

Regarding the meta-data stuff, IPTC would probably be a good start.
