Magnificently useful.

I also like the feature of auto-import. Current manual import is probably
not efficient in certain user case.

When user John receive a photo from his friend, he has to put the photo in a
directory adhere to the topic and import it into Shotwell manually.

Auto-import could integrate these two steps.
